Relaxation Therapies

As part of your stay, St. George Hospital offers you Reiki, Yoga, Mediation and many other treatments for your relaxation and regeneration.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a supplemental treatment that fosters your own healing powers. Translated from Japanese it means „universal life-force energy“. It is a traditional healing method based on the principle that the body is a flowing energy system. Everybody, whether healthy or ill, can benefit from Reiki, because it helps us to regenerate from the daily life stresses. It also helps us to become more aware of our innermost being and we gain strength, calmness and balance.

How does Reiki work?

During a Reiki-session, the hands are placed lightly over the glands and energy centers, also called chakras. Generally, a feeling of warmth and a flow of energy can be felt coming from the hands. The mind calms down, breathing becomes deeper and a feeling of well-being spreads throughout the body. A one hour Reiki session gives the body the same benefits as 3-4 hours of sleep. It has been proven that it raises the oxygen level in cells and blood, which has a positive effect on the immune system and the recovery process.

What is Yoga?

Yoga, the oldest science of life, teaches how to control stress. With Yoga it is possible to bring your whole being into balance. Your metabolism is stimulated, energies flow more freely and the senses open up to a clearer perception of what is taking place in body and mind. You become more alive, while at the same time a deep inner relaxation unfolds. You feel regenerated and recovered. Yoga is of great benefit for the joints, nerves and glands.

How does Yoga work?

You will be individually guided to practice according to your own ability and wish. All the movements are easy to learn, and no advance knowledge is required. By letting your breath flow deeply and naturally and working consciously with your body, pain and tension are relieved.

What is Meditation?

In Meditation you find an inner peace, by softly focusing the mind on the essential meaning of life. This can happen by simply concentrating on your breathing, or through guided visualization. Sharing the experience of stillness and the openness for spiritual existence is often a healing power for recovery.
